What to Expect

Physical therapy treatment begins with an initial evaluation on your first visit. Your therapist will take measurements and perform special tests to assess your current status. He/she will obtain information about your past medical history as well as your current injury and physical status. Current levels of function and pain will be assessed and you will receive treatment on the day of your first exam. Follow-up visits will include manual therapy techniques and often therapeutic exercises. Testing and measurements will be redone periodically to reevaluate your response to treatment and to help inform your physician about your progress.

Therapy Prescriptions

We accept referrals from medical doctors (D.O. and M.D.), dentists, podiatrists, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. We routinely send copies of your evaluation and progress notes to your referring physician to keep them informed of your progress in therapy.

Direct Access

Direct access refers to a law within the state of Michigan in which a prescription for Physical Therapy is not required to start care. This law allows patients to be seen by a Physical Therapist without a Physician script for 10 visits or 21 days, whichever comes first. While insurance companies may provide Physical Therapy benefits during that time, we suggest you speak to either your specific insurance carrier or contact our Billing Specialist to find out what your coverage is without a Physician referral. We believe strongly in continuity of care and encourage you to speak with your Physician regarding your current symptoms and plan of care whether you are planning to receive a script or not. We are more than happy to fax our findings to your Physician after your first visit so we may all work together to help in your recovery.

Insurance Information

You are responsible for contacting your insurance company to determine your coverage for physical therapy, including any deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance. We participate with most insurance companies including Medicare and will bill your insurance company for your therapy services. Please keep us informed of changes in your insurance and remember that your insurance coverage is a contract between you and your insurance company and you will be responsible for any remaining balance on your account. We accept personal checks, money orders, cash, credit cards, debit cards, and Flex spending/HSA payments. Payment plans are available if you are having difficulty making payments.

We participate with Molina, McLaren, Meridian, and Priority Health Medicaid programs. However, straight Medicaid DOES NOT pay for private practice physical therapy in Michigan. If you are receiving therapy through one of the mentioned programs and your coverage is converted to straight Medicaid at any time, you will be responsible for the cost of your therapy during that time.
